Who doesn’t like a two-for-one deal? Pay for something – get twice the value in return? Unfortunately, you usually have to wait for those one-time opportunities and be prepared to “hit the deal” when it pops up. It can be great if the timing is right, but how often does that happen?
I am happy to report that when it comes to vacuums, the two-for-one offer can be available to you anytime and whenever YOU need it.
What I am talking about is the “deal” when you buy a vacuum with two motors rather than one. In many cases, you can get a two-motor high quality machine for the same price as many one motor machines, and that is a deal you shouldn’t pass up.
What does two motors vs one really mean? While it does generally equate to more horsepower overall, it is less about “total” horsepower and more about the flexibility to direct that horsepower to different needs and uses of the vacuum. In a one motor upright vacuum, the motor’s power is targeted toward rotating the brushroll for maximum effectiveness on carpet. Some machines will have settings for higher or lower carpet pile, but the one motor unit is singularly designed for carpet use.
The problem for many, however, is that they have floor cleaning needs for multiple surfaces – carpet, hardwood, concrete, tile, etc. In a two-motor unit, the rotating brushroll and its dedicated engine can be turned off, while a second motor is directed toward suction power for cleaning hard surfaces. Effectively, you get an “upright” with its rotating brushroll for carpet AND a unit that acts like a “canister” vacuum with its suction only for hard surfaces: two for the price of one!
To get the most bang for your buck, you should look for a two-motor engine vacuum with a flexible hose that can easily be removed from its holster and used with various end attachments when in “canister” mode. The hose used directly with an attachment on a hard surface has significantly more power than suction from the standard bottom of a two-motor upright unit. With these machines, you truly have purchased an upright vacuum and cannister vacuum in both function AND form.
A two-motor upright vacuum with a flexible hose is our go-to unit whenever a client requests our opinion and has any hard surface areas to sweep/clean in addition to carpets and mats. Serving two needs with one machine is a cost saver, promotes efficiency, and is one less item to break and either repair or dump into the landfill.
